Introduction of Nuclear Technology and Research Development
Mongolia became a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 1973 and has been involved in the technical cooperation programs since 1975. Mongolia received a total of 15.1 million dollars in assistance from 1975 to 2016 for 42 years under the IAEA's membership program. For instance, about 73 joint projects with the agency were implemented aimed to introduce nuclear technology in the field of food, agriculture, health, geology, mining, energy, environment, science and education, and obtain professional advice and equipment for strengthening nuclear and radiation safety. Furthermore, about 159 officials participated in professional development training and about 120 consultants came to work within the projects. As part of this assistance, more than 30 laboratories have been established at government agencies, research institutes and universities.
